On Earth Day, Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association was pleased to honor Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc. as our first certified River-Friendly business.  To achieve this certification, they have met goals for water quality protection, water conservation, wildlife habitat improvement and education and outreach.  For example, they have transformed manicured lawns into wildflower meadows, developed an integrated pest management plan, and planted a naturalized buffer around their farm pond.  Independently reviewed by a Technical Advisory Committee, Janssen has implemented certification requirements that enhance and protect the natural resources on its campus.  They showcase that environmentally sound landscaping practices can be cost-effective, attractive and practical.
