The non-profit Edison Wetlands Association (EWA) will be offering a 40-hour Hazardous Waste
Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Recertification and Awareness Level Training,
beginning on Saturday, October 1st from 8 AM to 4 PM. The additional sessions will take
place on: Sunday, October 2nd; Saturday, October 8th; and Sunday, October 9th. Full-session attendees will be federally certified under
Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines at 40-hour Technician Level, while attendees who can
only attend one of the sessions will be
certified at 8-hour
Awareness Level. Those who have been certified at Technician Level within the past
year can be recertified by attending just one of the sessions. HAZWOPER is required by anybody who is exposed or
potentially exposed to hazardous
substances through cleanup operations at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, operations involving
hazardous wastes at treatment, storage and disposal facilities, and emergency response operations
for releases or potential
releases of hazardous substances. Additional HAZWOPER-required activities include working with
underground tanks and piping, contaminated soil and groundwater, subsurface investigations,
construction work with hazardous
materials potentially present, and facilities where hazardous wastes are prepared, treated,
stored, shipped or disposed. Instructed by NJ Van Houten & Associates, EWA is
offering this course at less than half the price of most HAZWOPER training sessions.
