Municipal Assessment Program Updates

The New Jersey Water Supply Authority (NJWSA) and Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association (SBMWA) have been working with municipalities in the Raritan Basin to help strengthen communities’ ability to achieve their own unique vision while protecting the natural environment through the Municipal Assessment Program.  Municipal Assessments are a valuable resource for municipalities to reach the goals set forth by their master plan, as well as enhancing water quality, community character and environmental safety.  The Raritan Basin Targeted Watersheds Grant from USEPA is funding this joint effort.

NJWSA has completed the Municipal Assessment and Report for Bethlehem Township, and a presentation will be scheduled in the near future.  The community is very excited to begin implementing many of the recommendations set forth in the assessment, ultimately leading to a more healthy watershed.  The Municipal Assessment Report will help guide the township as they update their master plan with a grant from The Association of Environmental Commissions (ANJEC).

Presently, NJWSA is in various stages of the municipal assessment process for many communities within the Raritan Basin, as well as a joint assessment with SBMWA for the Borough of Manville. Municipal assessments are also being performed for Raritan Highlands communities by other organizations and counties with 604(b) funding from The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and are nearing the draft stages of their respective reports.
