Environmental Educators (Part-Time), South Branch Watershed Association

Position Summary

The South Branch Watershed Association is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to teach their environmental education program, the “Waterways Stewardship Project,” for the 2005-2006 school year. Part-time, flexible schedule – busiest in the fall and spring. Must have own reliable transportation. This position offers the potential for professional development and is perfect for those who are considering entering or returning to the teaching field, retiring from education full-time but would still like to be involved, or as additional work experience for a substitute teacher. Position is available immediately.

Location

   Mostly at schools and stream field sites within the South Branch Raritan River Watershed.

   Occasional meetings, training, and equipment pick-up and drop-off from the SBWA office in Clinton Township.

Responsibilities

   Teach environmental education programs for school groups both in the classroom and at stream field sites.

   Home study of lesson materials, information, and equipment.

   Attendance at occasional meetings and trainings.

   Clean up and organize equipment after each use.

   Pick-up, drop-off, and/or transfer equipment when necessary.

   Be reasonably available as a back up in case another educator calls in sick.

   Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred, however, any combination of these will be taken into consideration:

   Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, environmental science, education, the life sciences, other related majors, or equivalent life experience.

   Experience working with children in an educational setting, both in a classroom and outdoors.

   Strong knowledge of natural history, especially relating to water and watersheds.

   Quick learner and willingness to learn.

   Good organizational skills and time management.

   Excellent verbal and listening communication skills.

   Strong interest and enthusiasm for the environment and desire to share it with others, especially children.

   Strong spirit of cooperation and teamwork.

Compensation

Paid bi-weekly on a per-program basis.
