Web Soil Survey

Natural Resources Conservation Service Soil Scientists develop and maintain the National Cooperative Soil Survey, a collection of scientific data describing our nation’s soils. Soil surveys provide soil descriptions, interpretations and maps. Information about soil characteristics and capabilities in their county assist communities, landowners and government in land-use planning. Educators use soil surveys for soil science instruction.

Nineteen of New Jersey’s twenty-one counties are represented on the Web Soil Survey at http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov. This site allows online viewing of soil survey maps and reports. By simply typing in your home address, you can find information on what’s happening beneath your feet!
