NJWSA's Municipal Assessment Program

The Municipal Assessment Program, based on a process developed by the Stony Brook – Millstone Watershed Association, evaluates a community’s environmental goals and objectives and provides guidance to community leaders to better preserve, protect and enhance environmental assets through local action. As of April 2007 Bethlehem, Lebanon and Union Townships, and Califon Borough (Hunterdon County) as well as Chester, Mendham and Washington Townships (Morris County) have approved their Next Steps Reports and are taking advantage of this guidance document. Reports for Mt. Olive Township (Morris County), High Bridge Borough, and Clinton Township (Hunterdon County) and Bedminster Township, Peapack-Gladstone Borough, Bridgewater Township, and Raritan Borough (Somerset County) are at various stages of draft completion.

In addition, Glen Gardner Borough, The Town of Clinton, and Tewksbury Township (Hunterdon County) have authorized participation in the assessment process and are presently in the survey and data collection phase. Under a DEP 604b grant, the Califon Borough report was prepared by the South Branch Watershed Association,  the Washington Township report was prepared by the Morris County Planning Department, the Peapack-Gladstone Borough and Bedminster Township reports are being prepared by the Upper Raritan Watershed Association, the Clinton Township report is being prepared by the Hunterdon County Planning Department and the Mendham Township report was prepared by the NJWSA. All other reports are being prepared by the NJWSA under an EPA Targeted Watershed Grant.
