Bald Eagle Writer To Speak At Watershed Association’s Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the South Branch Watershed Association will take place on Friday March 18 at Mangia Bene Restaurant on Route 202 in Raritan Township.  Bruce E. Beans, a noted local author, will present a talk on the bald eagle at the meeting.

Mr. Beans is the author of Eagle's Plume: The Struggle to Preserve the Life and Haunts of America's Bald Eagle (Scribner, University of Nebraska Press) and co-editor of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife of New Jersey (Rutgers University Press). The chief writer and editor for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Endangered and Nongame Species Program, he has closely watched the state’s bald eagle population increase during the past two decades from just one to nearly 50 active nesting pairs. His environmental journalism has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Audubon magazine and New Jersey Monthly.

The South Branch Watershed Association is a membership based non-profit organization that advocates for water conservation and the preservation of the natural resources of the South Branch Raritan River and its watershed, a source of drinking water for more than one million Central New Jersey residents and businesses.  The Association provides environmental education to elementary and middle school age children and the general public.  Other programs include municipal land use planning assistance to promote low impact development; biological sampling to monitor the health of the South Branch Raritan River and its tributaries; research and guidance on stormwater runoff and non-point source pollution issues; well testing programs; and stream clean up and restoration projects.
