Raritan Highlands Wastewater Management Planning Project

The New Jersey Water Supply Authority, in cooperation with the County Planning Boards of Hunterdon, Morris and Somerset and the South Branch and Upper Raritan Watershed Associations, is implementing a major NJDEP/USEPA grant to improve wastewater management planning in the Highlands area, especially the Raritan Highlands.  As part of this multi-year project, the project team has compiled abstracts regarding model ordinances and master plan guidance documents available in New Jersey.  This 90-page compilation covers a wide range of topics related to water resources management and environmental protection.  Electronic copies are available from the Authority.

The document was used as the basis for a March 2005 workshop of municipal planners and engineers, where the attendees set priorities for the development of new model ordinances or master plan guidance.  As a result of the workshop, the project team will be developing model ordinance language on “net density” zoning, and model master plan guidance on subwatershed budgets and steep slopes.
