Two Tons of Trash Removed from River

The South Branch Watershed Association (Association) held its 15th Annual Spring River Clean Up on Saturday, April 16th.  Over 450 community members volunteered their time to clean up 18 sites throughout the watershed.  Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Round Valley Trout Association, Alpha Phi Omega from Rutgers University, Hunterdon Youth Services, RMS, local environmental commission members, and many other concerned citizens and community groups participated in the clean up.

Young Volunteers with Their Findings in Califon Park

Over two tons of garbage were removed from local waterways and the surrounding land!  Interesting items collected at various sites included cans of tar, “No Dumping” sign, hockey puck, wooden gate, crutch, trashcan, bed frame, garden hose, muffler, storm door, table, and a fuse box!  For the participants, it was a great way to make a big difference in the communities in which they live, work, and play.

Local sponsors also helped to make the event possible.  The event was a great success due to the support and participation of our many sponsors and volunteers!  For more information about the clean up or the Association, please contact Nicole Rahman, Program Director, at 908-782-0422, or visit the Association on the web at www.sbwa.org.
