Spruce Run Initiative Wins Award

The Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) presented the New Jersey Water Supply Authority with a 2005 Environmental Achievement Award in recognition of the Spruce Run Initiative Highway Corridor Study at ANJEC’s Environmental Congress held on October 21, 2005 at the Conference Center at Mercer County College.  The award recognized the Authority’s work with the Spruce Run Initiative, which prepared a Highway Corridor Smart Growth Study suggesting ways to strengthen local economic conditions while protecting the water resources of the Spruce Run Reservoir.  Member municipalities of the Spruce Run Initiative include Bethlehem, Lebanon, and Union Townships and High Bridge Borough. The environmental consulting firm of AKRF, Inc. of New York was engaged in the study. NJWSA, SRI member municipalities, and ANJEC provided funding for the study.

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell was the featured speaker at the ANJEC 2005 Environmental Congress. NJWSA staff attending the event included Henry Patterson and Kathy Hale, as well as Bob O’Neil and Dan Van Abs (pictured here with Commissioner Campbell) who accepted the award on behalf of the Authority.
